November 27th 2014

When I did wholly recover my senses on the 27th December 1914 at 2 in the morning  I was in the Casino Boulogne (then utilised as a hospital) Hardly knew what to think all was so strange to me. A nursing sister was sitting reading by my bedside, and I made an effort to speak to her but alas, found I could not articulate a single word nor could I hear what she said. I saw her lips moving but that was all. I motioned for a piece of paper and a pencil and sister handed me these and I wrote the following note “ How long have I been here and where am I ?” She wrote under my question “ You are quite safe in hospital at the Casino Boulogne and arrived here on the evening of the 24th December”.
