9th November 1914   Monday

Same sort of a morning but lively afternoon, our trenches heavily shelled- Raining – Rumours of a relief which materialised. Went back about 5 miles to rest in old French trenches (Upper Ypres) – got to our destination about midnight – a desolate hole but only too pleased to get out of the shell area so made the best of it for the night-
