29th October 1914   Thursday

Fearful artillery bombardment, good news, got great praise. Spoiled German’s plans by staying on in trenches overnight. Moved at 2 pm. To reinforce a weak spot (The Chateau Hooge) Terrible death trap. Had very narrow squeak here – sniped at about a dozen times taking a message to our right battalion – Several wounded , Rained heavy all night.20140501_132141Trenches near site of Hooge Chateau as seen in early 2014
