21st October 1914   Wednesday

Off again at 6.30 am. Marched through several badly shelled villages, hear our guns booming. Halted at Tushendaal – dug trenches.

Publisher’s note:

There is and never was a place named Tushendal. Leo must have misheard or been told incorrectly. He would not have recognised the name of the small unknown village which they had arrived at. Today it is all too well known.  It was Paschendale
