5th October 1914   Monday

Still in trenches. Key of coal yard sent up very early. (For Jack Johnsons) no reply from us – party out for sniper – no luck – O’Shaughnessy killed sniping a sniper. Lieut Brooks wounded by stray Coal box in afternoon en route to take over transport officer. Hard luck . raining at night.
