21st September 1914   Monday

Relieved Grenadiers at night, artillery very busy on both sides , farm de Cour Soupir shelled very heavily and practically destroyed by fire. Dozens of oxen perished in the flames – all chained up in the sheds – Had salt pork, cabbage etc. ( Also cider and wine on the quiet) Had usual attack during the evening – all well.
