September 16th 1914

16th September 1914   Wednesday

Though pleased to be back with the Company and very much relieved, Still without a bite to eat. Rations had been issued just before. We found, nothing left for us, after a time some of our pals scrambled together a few bits of biscuit and Bully and some water which we only too gladly accepted. Shelled here rather furiously during the day, but got off very lightly, only one of our men killed. A man of my Company. Killed by shrapnel.
