7th August 1914 Friday
Reservists still pouring in. Company on parade allotting platoons and sections. Self allotted to No 4 platoon, No 4 section. Sgt D Tooker i/c platoon. Capt A E S Mullholland in command of company. Lord John Hamilton 2nd in command. Other officers The Hon H R Alexander and Lieut N L Woodroffe. Best part of day spent in seeing that all equipment, necessaries etc. complete. Rolls taken of whole company.

The Lieut H R Alexander that Leonard refers to, then aged 22, was to become Field Marshall Sir Harold Alexander (Later Earl Alexander of Tunis) who served with distinction in WW2
